Common Knowledge
Siegbert is known to be an artistic soul with a dry sense of humor that bites into one like a whip, with a passion for things both creative and combative. Though reticent and pragmatic, they are revealed to have a heart that beats strongly for those they come to know over time.
History
Pre-MSQ
Siegbert was born to a family of artisans–renowned blacksmiths, armorers, sculptors, and artists for a noble house of Ishgard, where they were quickly inducted into their way of life and hands-on way of work from a very young age. It was a common joke that members of their lineage were born with a hammer clenched tightly in one fist and a chisel in the other, though Siegbert found more interest in a brush and a set of oils from early on. Their childhood was full of labor amidst the ebb and flow of the Dragonsong War, which raged on in the background of their youth.
A Realm Reborn
Life continued on unimpeded. Siegbert's talents as a painter became known as they spent more and more time delving into the world of art, to which their work at the ripe age of 14 summers was found to be the work of a prodigy. They were quickly apprenticed under a master where they spent their days holed up with naught but easel and palette to keep them company. Eventually, they outgrew even their master and rose to higher ranks of esteem with their talents, painting for the nobility personal portraits and elaborate frescoes that became a widespread sensation. When not working on commissions, Siegbert would oft paint religious iconography, though as time passed, critics would notice a more questionable slant to their strokes. During this time, they also taught themselves pictomancy.
Heavensward
It was then that the Dragonsong War reared its ugly head once more, turning Siegbert's relatively peaceful life upside-down. They began to focus less on art and more on aiding their family in the war effort, whose prestige as smithys saw to it that Ishgard's dragoons came straight to their doorstep to have their armor and weapons mended. Siegbert would often accompany the dragoons to training or even the field of battle to analyze the effectiveness of the current design of their armor or administer field repairs, and it was this repeated exposure that lead to them becoming attached to the young men and women who fought by their side. Such was their attachment to a particular unit that many remarked that Siegbert hardly spent an hour without being seen by a dragoon's side.
However, such bliss was not to last. For every dragoon they aided, even fewer returned. Siegbert felt each loss keenly in their soul, for these were close friends and confidantes who had entrusted their protection to Siegbert's very hand, only for it to mean naught as they came back to them in a casket. It became too much to bear, and Siegbert's mental state eventually broke down as they were forced to recover the burnt, warped remains of yet another dragoon's armor that had melted under the fire of a dragon's breath. Such events cemented the war's futility in their mind, and they railed against the institutions of Ishgard for allowing their sons and daughters to become kindling on the fire of needless violence.
Siegbert became an outspoken protestor against the war, leading most of their wealthy connections to abandon them and for the Holy See to cast its baleful eye upon them. They argued that the Pope had the power to stop this conflict if they so wished and was needlessly sacrificing their young to extend it, an unpopular sentiment that lead to their arrest on more than one occasion. It was only when they chose to don themselves in dragoon's garb in a live art exhibition they called the “Paper Dragoon” where they set themselves alight before the church as an ultimatum to stop the war did the Holy See finally crack down hard upon them. After weeks of hospital arrest, having been apprehended before their life could be taken from them amidst the flames of self-immolation, they were moved to imprisonment in the Vault.
It was only when the Vault was stormed by the Warrior of Light and their allies did Siegbert escape in the chaos, but not before catching a glimpse of the beacon that would become their inspiration for years to come. Seeing the Warrior in action and hearing of their deeds reignited hope in Siegbert's heart, and though they were forced into hiding for the remainder of the war, they wept openly on hearing of its end at the WoL's hands.
They would eventually return to Ishgard once it was deemed safe to do so, and would aid in the restoration as well as efforts to repair relationships with the neighboring moogles, Zundu, and Vath. Driven by a need to do more as well as honor the fallen dragoons who had never achieved their dreams of becoming heroes, Siegbert decided to leave Ishgard once again to become an adventurer and follow in the footsteps of the WoL, citing that they had found a new horizon which to paint.

Stormblood
Siegbert would continue to trail the WoL, following them all the way to the Far East and spreading word of their heroics far and wide with the paintings they made in their image. They would aid the Resistance for a time before continuing on their journey and crossing many a hostile path with Garleans or warring tribes of the Steppe.

Shadowbringers
Siegbert would continue to adventure the realm, honing their skills as a combatant, though on many a occasion they dreamt of another world drenched in Light. Their strange dreams led to them recreating their visions through art, and Eorzea was given a glimpse of the fantasy world of the First.
Having noticed their skills, Arenvald recruits Siegbert temporarily as part of their anti-primal taskforce, overseen by General Aldynn.
Endwalker
Siegbert was notably one of the first responders to the blasphemies appearing during the Final Days, having witnessed Fandaniel's speech for themselves as they were part of Raubauhn's retinue during his appearance. Though this time they could not follow the Warrior of Light to the ends of the universe, they prayed–as all the rest–that they would return safely, and bid others to bolster their faith in their hero.
Dawntrail
Some say they spotted a traveling artist who looked suspiciously like Siegbert in Tuliyollal. Curious!

Trivia
• Their main job is a hybrid of PCT/DRG. There are a few posts on their blog at painted-woes.tumblr.com that cover how it works.
• Estinien often calls them “toothpick legs” for the size of their shins, which are apparently not dragoon standard. Siegbert often kicks him in his shins for saying so.
• They were never a dragoon, but they watched others fight and studied them so intensely that they were able to teach themselves the art easily as an adventurer. All that work drawing training manuals for the recruits came in handy…
• Their pictomancy is also notably not cartoonish, but more classical art styled.
• They like Mont Blancs.
