Common Knowledge

Fuyume is a young Raen Au Ra that spent most of her childhood as a Garlean test subject before being freed by the Warrior of Light. She has a frail and almost sickly appearance due to the long term experimentation, but it belies the incredible strength and speed she actually possesses. She also experienced some mutations; rather than just two horns on the sides of her head, she has an additional two large horns on the top of her head, and her tail grew to enormous proportions with large plate like scales. One eye is permanently stuck in Resonance, and she suffers from seizures when she expends too much aether or experiences too strong of an resonant echo. Upon escaping from Castrum Abania, she became close friends with the Warrior of Light, M'neila, and Edda. While M'neila is recovering after the events of Ultima Thule, she takes over as a sort of stand in Warrior of Light to investigate Pandaemonium, when she meets and falls for Themis. She still seems quite standoffish to strangers but she's come a long way from the suspicious escaped teen she once was and loves quite deeply.

History

Pre-MSQ - Heavensward

Roughly ten years before Stormblood, a young Raen family was attempting to flee the Garlean provinces, hoping to find a better life somewhere, anywhere, else. However, they were captured on the way out. The parents were separated from their barely five summers old child, taken elsewhere while she was given to the scientists as a test subject. That was the last time Fuyume ever saw her parents. The experimentations started slow, taking blood samples, occasionally injecting things here and there, adding substances to her food without telling her. But over the years, it escalated, and like a frog slowly boiled, Fuyume barely realized just how bad it was getting until she was subjected to the earliest Resonance testing. While it was a success in that she was able to utilize Echo visions, it was an abject failure in that doing so for long periods of time, or even if one instance was too strong, would send her into seizure fits; of less concern to the tests but plenty of concern for Fuyume, the Echo effects she experienced through resonance also caused not insignificant pain. The scientists started to search for a way to mitigate this side effect, subjecting her to further painful experimentation, often cutting samples directly from her skin to test, leaving her heavily scarred.

Stormblood

The scientists leading the experimentations on Fuyume finally made a breakthrough on her condition, creating an injectable serum to mitigate her seizures. This still wasn't an ideal solution, as she needed the medication regularly, but it was a step in the right direction. Testing intensified, particularly after another Echo bearing test subject had been captured during the rebellions in Ala Mhigo. When the Warrior of Light and their companions invaded Castrum Abania, Fuyume was left alone in one of the testing rooms. Seeing her chance, she grabbed a box of the serum that controlled her condition and fled the room, deciding to take her chances with whomever was storming the castrum rather than stay and continue to be a lab rat. She ran into M'neila and their party, and abandoning her pride and fear for just a moment begged for their help. They brought her with them and out of the castrum, where she suddenly became very withdrawn.

Despite this, Fuyume found she trusted the young Warrior of Light that pulled her from the castrum, and as soon as she was well enough to hold a blade, she took up two to fight at their side, even if she still felt uncertain about their companions. When Neila and the Scions started to be Called, Fuyume was one of the first to be pulled, alongside Thancred, to the First.

Shadowbringers

Fuyume was none too happy with the Exarch when she arrived on the First, only comforted that she wasn't the only one pulled through. She ended up sticking with Thancred, since she didn't know or trust anyone in this strange land, and by extension meeting a young Minfilia. Having never met the original Minfilia, Fuyume couldn't understand the way Thancred was behaving around the young Minfilia and often lashed out at him for being seemingly uncaring or in some cases outright cruel. Even with their spats though, she stuck with them, having seen something of herself in Minfilia and wanting to be there for her, in her own way.

While on the First, Fuyume also found herself blessedly lacking her Resonance's usual side effects, both pain and seizures. After a time, she started to almost prefer being absent from her body, able to be comfortable for the first time in years. When Neila finally made it to the First, she confided this to them, admitting that it was tempting even should they find a way back to just… stay.

Fuyume was overcome with rage when she first saw Emet-Selch, recognizing Solus' visage from the portraits that often decorated castrums. She tried to attack him in that first introduction, only for it to fail. From then she took every chance to spit venom at him. However, when he was finally defeated, she felt…nothing. No absolution, no satisfaction, just nothing.

She assisted M'neila in stopping Elidibus on the First, exchanging little to no words with the Emissary before he was locked away. When it was time to return to the Source, Fuyume finally made her decision; despite the pain that waited back in her own body, she wanted to go back, to be with her friends again.

Endwalker

-early EW tbd-

In Ultima Thule, Fuyume was struck with indignation when she beheld how the dragons desired to just give up. She confronted them alongside Estinien, telling them that if they gave up entirely they would be surrendering the only thing that their enemies could not take by force; their hope. That even through pain there were things worth going on for; love and friendship. Her own resolve in the face of the dragons' insistence that all was lost helped pave the way forward for the Warrior of Light.

When M'neila called back the scions, Fuyume returned, to some surprise to the others. But she told them, she meant what she'd said. That she loved them, and it was worth the pain she lived with to be with them.

After Ultima Thule, M'neila was bedridden from their injuries, in addition to being in no mental state to be solving problems or fighting enemies. Fuyume stepped up when Claudien and his researchers asked for assistance in investigating their strange memory crystal, traveling back to the past to investigate Pandaemonium…and running head first into Themis. Something about him felt somewhat familiar, but she could only wonder that maybe she had met his shard at some point in her journeys and the resemblance was what she was feeling. As they explored Pandaemonium, meeting Erich and working to rescue warders and creations alike, she couldn't help feeling a bit smitten with him; his boundless optimism and utter belief in her own abilities worming their way under her skin and even coaxing the rare smile or two from her. When he revealed that he was Elidibus… she didn't know what to think. When she heard the name, she could only think of the Ascian who tried to kill her and hers on the First. At the first chance, she fled back to the present, barging into the Annex to panic at M'neila that the sweet kind boy she'd been telling them about was actually Elidibus. Neila reassured her that if they'd been able to talk sense into Mitron that all couldn't possibly be lost. Knowing that Elidibus had sacrificed his soul to send Neila back, she couldn't see how that could be, but she didn't get much more time to contemplate as she was called away to face Pandaemonium, reappeared in the Aetherial Sea.

Relationships

M'neila, Warrior of Light

Fuyume's best friend and the person who led the party that saved her from Castrum Abania. Fuyume trusts Neila explicitly, when few others could count on such loyalty from her. She has never thought to keep a secret from them, and fights on their behalf when they're injured after Ultima Thule.

Edda Blackbosom

Fuyume's other close friend, and another saved by Neila's actions. Though Edda's more bubbly personality post-rescue would normally grate against Fuyume's sensitivities, they bonded over the shared experience of being used as someone's test subject.

Redona bas Falcis

A half-Garlean, half-Elezen that stepped somewhat into a motherly role for her, Fuyume initially viewed her with suspicion but now sees the woman as a source of comfort, even if she often reminds the woman that she can take care of herself, thank you.

Themis

Fuyume's unexpected love interest. Fuyume and Elidibus had not interacted or hardly even met before the events of Endwalker, really only crossing paths just before he was sealed in the Crystal Tower. She grew close to him when investigating Pandaemonium, before realizing who he was in her own time. Fuyume plucked his soul from the Aetherial Sea at great risk to herself, straining her aether nearly beyond what it could take.
