Common Knowledge

Altais is part of a group of Warriors of Light known as Solar who work with the Scions. She's not the easiest person to get along with, a rough life has led her to be slow to trust and not particularly polite. Show her you're strong and independent and you can at least earn her respect. She's known for her terrifying endurance, years of fighting and suffering taught her to basically ignore pain. She can get up and keep fighting with horrifying wounds until her body forces her to pass out. In addition to somehow becoming a world hero, she's also a masterful weapons engineer, looking into combining Garlean magitek with the magic non-Garleans like herself are capable of. Her talents easily rival those of Cid, though she's interested in building far more deadly things than he is. Her focus is ever and always on growing stronger, both for herself and for her friends. Her loyalty is hard to earn, and it took Solar a long time to gain it but once built it's unshakable as long as she's not betrayed.

History

Born on the Azim Steppe with a different name, she left there eventually to get away from her family and seek strength in the world beyond it. Her mother was a terrible person, and insisted her kids should never trust anyone. This ended up being instilled the hard way when Altais’s older sister was convinced by their mother’s ramblings and stuck a knife in the young Xaela when she least expected it. This betrayal led to Altais spending her childhood alone, and she would continue to travel by herself trusting no one until she met Solar. Somehow her fellow Warriors of Light managed to get through to her over time, and she’s determined to protect them now because at long last she has something really worth fighting for.

Pre-MSQ

Most of her life was spent traveling the Far East alone with her Yol Sorvi once she left the Steppe. She left her homeland seeking strength and never looked back. Pressure from the Garleans had her planning to leave the East around when the Calamity hit Eorzea, but planning such a trip with Sorvi was difficult. After a scrap with the Garleans, the citizens who the Empire punished for her defiance rallied against her and Sorvi was killed in the ensuing struggle. Alone and with nothing left to lose, she snuck onto a ship bound for Eorzea with only her bow and the clothes on her back. It was in Eorzea she took the name Altais, not wanting to be found by anyone who knew her from the Steppe or the Far East.

A Realm Reborn

Altais started doing adventurer work in Eorzea to keep herself alive and continue to push her strength in battle. Through this she was introduced to the Scions of the Seventh Dawn who recognized her Echo, and a small group of other similarly gifted adventures who formed the primal slaying group Solar. She joined Solar figuring fighting primals was the perfect way to grow stronger, but she continued not trust anyone. For perhaps the first time in her life, people were just genuinely kind to her, and she didn't know what to make of it. Still, she was convinced she was only around for her usefulness. It wasn't until everyone reconnected at Camp Dragonhead after the bloody banquet that she realized these people really did care about her, and with that Solar and the Scions earned her loyalty.

Heavensward

Ishgard was not a kind place for an Au Ra. Their hatred of dragons led to a general dislike of Altais, and the cold left her with frozen scales almost all the time. But eventually she would find her place in the manufactory. Stephanivien ran into her out on the streets one day, and she initially only went with him because it looked warm inside. Altais ended up finding her first ever hobby here, learning to build and modify weaponry, justifying her interest with how useful it was. She started wielding her custom firearms and became a MCH, naming her primary weapon Ukhel. Nidhogg would eventually leave her with a nasty scar across her back, but Altais and the rest of Solar ended the Dragonsong war once and for all.

Stormblood

Not long after arriving in Rhalgr's Reach, Altais found herself a new friend. While out testing her weapons, a wild griffin showed up to feast on the animals she'd shot and was planning to cook for herself. The griffin reminds her of her old companion, and she ends up dueling him much like the Xaela do with the Yol and befriending him that way. Altais named her new mount Mercury, and from that day on he would be her constant companion as she traveled. Fate would soon draw her back to the Far East and her homeland on the Steppe despite her never wanting to return. She struggled to deal with this, and often disappeared on Solar to soar across the Steppe with Mercury alone. Back there, where everything had began it was easy to question her devotion to Solar and wonder if she'd made the right choice trusting them and sticking with them. This would culminate when Altais ran into her mother and sister again for the first time in years. Her family believed her to be weak for her trust in others, but Altais chose to stand by the choices she made and swore to prove it by winning the Naadam. If she won all the Xaela, including her old tribe, would follow her into battle against the Garleans. Resolved, she came clean to Solar about her past and what she had sworn to do, and they were willing to support her all the way. She challenged Bardam's Mettle for the second time in her life, but instead of a Yol it was Mercury who leapt ahead to challenge her, as if sensing what was supposed to happen. She flew in the Naadam atop her white griffin and won the competition with Solar and the Mol tribe at her side. It was after this win she took on the last name Narluu, based on Solar for they were her tribe now. She would lead the Xaela troops for the attack on Doma Castle before returning to Ala Mhigo with her friends to finish things there.

Shadowbringers

Being summoned to the First caused Altais's gun to break. While she was quite angry at the Exarch about it, she took the chance to build something new. Taking inspiration from both the Garlean tech she'd studied and the Bozjan gunblade techniques Thancred had picked up, she built herself a gunblade of her own named Tasralgi. Tasralgi was heavily customized throughout her adventures on the First, and could serve as a long range firearm as well as a close range gunblade using aether charged ammo for both. Her aether had always leaned towards fire and that was the aspect her gunblade was imbued with until she absorbed a Lightwarden, at which point it shifted to light. She came the closest she ever has to falling apart when she was slowly turning into a Lightwarden and unable to stop it from happening, it made her irritable and reckless and this would come back to bite her later on.

Solar initially chose her to send for the investigation into the Garleans' weapon project, her background in engineering and weaponry making her the perfect fit. After fighting the ruby weapon, it became clear the situation was more than they'd thought, and backup was quickly called in to help her. She helped Cid design and build the G-Warrior, and was the one to pilot it. During this time, she was also in contact with the people studying summoning magic, and started trying to integrate it into her weaponry. Something went wrong, and the core of her weapon wasn't enough to contain Bahamut's power causing it to flow into her body dangerously. The reckless fear from nearly becoming a lightwarden never left her, and despite knowing it was dangerous Bahamut's power felt so potent she kept using the faulty weapon since it made her feel so strong. This would all culminate disastrously, when too much of the primal's power drawn into her body caused an actual summoning of Bahamut onto herself. It was a far cry from the previous incarnation of the primal, her own fears and doubts mixed in with the aether of the original to create a new incarnation of the draconic primal. Solar had to fight her in her Bahamut form to subdue the primal, and when they found out how it happened they were quite upset with her for her recklessness. She would now have to live with the consequences, the primal was a part of her now and he would always be there trying to take control and destroy everything.
