Common Knowledge

The Jewel of Ul'dah

Miss Rue has built quite a name for herself in Ul'dah whether it be from her striking appearance, or that she inherited a large sum of wealth from a former Syndicate member. Formerly a courtesan among the wealthiest Ul'dahn elites, Rue now spends her days working at her fashion haus, overseeing her dye-making empire, or merely relaxing in one of her many estates. She loves to brag about her accomplishments, whether big or small. Outgoing, empathetic, and well versed to listening to others, Rue is always happy to spark conversation about most anything.

She is known to use her wealth to support immigrants and refugees, and has supported the Warrior of Light and the Scions through acts of diplomacy. Rue often aids in securing passages for travel, lodgings, and general funds needed for saving the world.

Due to her philanthropy, she has become a household name from time to time - either good or bad, she has often been featured in quite a few columns in The Mythril Eye and other local tabloids.

History

Pre-MSQ

Her birth name now a buried memory, Amarilys grew up in the mountains of Dalmasca like most Veena. Her settlement was located closest to the top of the peaks, and most of her early years were spent in the frozen mountains surrounded by snow. Her village held the responsibility of protecting the woad against supernatural beasts, such as voidsent and thus were rather attuned with their aether and talented sorcerers. Rue is wont to speak of her past, though it has been said that she and her mother rarely got along. Both women are stubborn, however, where Rue follows her heart, her mother follows the Green Word.Amarilys was groomed from birth to follow in her mother's footsteps and one day lead their village. She had inherited the family's affinity for aetherial magics and was destined to protect those of her clan. The responsibility of such leadership made Rue uneasy, especially considering her indifference towards her people and their way of life.Exile never scared her, and she was excited to leave as soon as possible.Once she reached greater civilization at around 90 years of age, she spent months in correspondence with Eorzean traders. During this time, she began to develop her passion for the arts, as well as learned to read and write common. She received sponsorship for her journey overseas from Madame Winnow, a famous owner of a house of 'splendor' dubbed 'The Radiant Oasis' in Ul'dah.

Her recent history begins in her new home of Ul'dah, where she worked quickly to rise to the top. Rue became a popular choice of companion for the Ul'dahn elite and spent 30yrs in the employ of a Syndicate member, Lord Fefekoni Cecekoni, following a tedious two decades in a brothel. During this time, she became an expert in many trade crafts and arts, and with the help of her patron, sponsored many Othardian merchants and their journeys out of the Garlean occupation. Most folks were artists or specialists in their crafts, lost souls much like her own, who yearned for a fresh start. She also convinced Fefekoni to purchase housing for such refugees so that they may have a place to call home and food on their table. She made sure their necessities were met so that they could flourish with new connections and honest work.Amarilys crafted an exceptional reputation for herself both within Ul'dah and without as a philanthropist and as an exceptional courtesan. She spent many nights in the Royal Promenade dancing away her worries and keeping the company of the wealthiest members of Eorzean society. She has often been seen among politicians and royalty, her ever sweet voice swaying her targets one way or another in her favor. She enjoyed her leisure time most of all, in which she nurtured her wandering mind and dabbled in plenty of skills. Rue's love for fashion drove her most of all - her keen eye for style, color, form, and texture lead her to owning her own studio in The Gold Court. Other skills she developed consisted of botany, alchemy, perfume creations, painting, drawing, dancing, the lute… and so many more.Fefekoni treasured Amarilys' companionship and, with no heirs to his estate, left the majority of his wealth in her name when he passed eight years ago.

A Realm Reborn

The Echo manifested within Rue following the Seventh Umbral Calamity, which needless to say, changed the course of her life. Desperate to discover her purpose, she answers her call to Hydaelyn and finds herself as a close companion to the Warriors of Light. She never fancied herself a fighter, although she always had an affinity for magic which proved useful. While she leaves most of the hard work to her companions and takes on a more supportive role, she is still instrumental to their cause forming treaties, funding excursions, securing travel passages, and meeting new allies.

Trivia

♥ Despite being married to Sage for over 2 years, Rue still struggles with a life of monogamy... and although she promises its just a flirt (!), Sage will surely have a disapproving comment in order...
♥ Rue has two siblings, although only one has joined her in Eorzea. Luca, her younger brother, joined Rue on her return from Kugane. Although reluctant to rekindle any sort of relationship with her estranged family, Alphinaud and Alisae inspire her to accept her brother with open arms. She may have been a bit hostile when Luca first reunited with her... but she's fixing it now, she swears!
♥ Rue's first and most dear friend in Eorzea is an Elezen woman named Claisie, who worked alongside Rue at Madam Winnows house of splendor. The two would remain close under the house of their new patron Fefekoni.
♥ Claisie's wife, a roegadyn called Tenbrael, is the captain of Rue's trading vessel dubbed Rue's Embrace and is definitely not doing anything illegal ever. Tenbrael would never tarnish the name of Rue's precious empire! ...unless?
♥ While under the employ of Fefekoni, Rue and Claisie befriend a keeper of the moon miqo'te-- Mi'yira-- who is a different kind of "free-spirited". Fefekoni never complained, however, Rue and Claisie were left to raise all 7 of Mi'yira's children, lest they find themselves motherless while Yira continues her adventures around the world.
♥ After the end of the Final Days, Rue is eager to focus solely on her Dye Empire and spends most days in Ul'dah unless needed overseas. She takes on two apprentices- Hannish Auri, Suri and Zhavia, both heirs to the Ruveydah Fibres company.
