Akku is part of the group of Warriors of Light known as Solar who work with the Scions. He's an incredibly kindhearted and caring individual, and what he lacks in combat prowess he makes up with sheer optimism and belief in everyone. With an ability to see people's dynamis, he knows what everyone around him is feeling and does his best to help them.
Akku was thrust into the duties of a Warrior of Light younger than most of the others. A rocky life led to his being in Castrum Meridianum when perhaps he shouldn't have been, and joining Solar's attack party after getting lost and running into them. Solar's leader Zelda took him under her wing and became his mentor, and he would join Solar himself once it was realized he too possessed the Echo and strange ability to see emotions as part of it. He would be the emotional heart of the group and not much of a fighter for a long time, until he eventually came into his own as a healer.
Akku grew up in Gridania with his brother, never knowing his parents. He always knew something was off from this and the fact they were the only Seekers he knew living there, but his brother would never tell him exactly why he took Akku away from whatever tribe they came from. Akku only knew that his brother adamantly believed this to be for the best. Perhaps this was better than whatever they left behind, however he would eventually fall to alcoholism and Akku would be left to take care of himself a good bit. With no friends, his drunk brother was still all he had so he stayed until things came to a head. In drunken anger, his brother stabbed Akku in the arm with a knife and upon realizing what he'd done simply told Akku to leave. Terrified, Akku fled and used the last of his gil to take the first airship that arrived, ending up in Limsa Lominsa with his arm still bleeding. The rogues' guild ended up taking him in and starting to train him as a rogue, though while he was good at the stealth aspect he never had a talent with knives.
During the assault on Castrum Meridianum, Akku got separated from the rogues he was with. He ended up stumbling upon Solar's party and joining their group rather than remaining alone. Not long after, having realized Akku also possessed the Echo, Zelda invited him to join Solar and became his mentor teaching him how to be a ninja. He quickly grows attached to Solar, and with his ability to see emotions tries to help them all the best he can. What he lacks in combat ability is made up for in heart, and Solar enjoys having him around.
While raiding the Sahagin base, Akku stumbled into a treasure room where he finds Enbarr tied up. Freeing the water aspected stallion earns Akku his loyalty, and wherever he went after that Enbarr was never far behind.
After the Bloody Banquet, it's Akku who convinces Altais going to Dragonhead is a good idea even when she doesn't expect anyone to be waiting for them.
Akku is quick to support the idea of talking to the dragons to end the war. The emotions in war torn Ishgard are miserable to behold, and he desperately wants to end their conflict. His ability to appeal to emotions is useful here, though he's no diplomat, and he desperately tries to befriend everyone, human and dragon alike. His appeals work on many, but not on the great wyrms where it truly matters, and he's downcast by this failure for awhile.
Akku finds Zenos a terrifying force to behold, though not for the reasons other might. His focus is on Zenos's near total lack of emotions in battle, as the crown prince kills countless people without even the slightest hint of anything. He finds himself completely unable to fight Zenos, frozen with terror in Ala Mhigo, and Altais ends up taking a blow meant for him. Akku would feel awful about this for a long time, only distracted when his friends all start disappearing.
After the events on the First, Akku is fed up being able to do nothing. His attempts to befriend Emet-Selch and Vauthry had been utterly pointless, and he just wants to contribute something to the group and stop letting others suffer while he watches. Seeing the others nearly turn into Light Wardens compounded on top of what had already happened to Altais fighting Zenos before all of that caused him to snap, and upon returning home he threw himself into learning conjury, putting his compassion for others to good use. Once he had made sufficient progress, he went to Zelda and asked her to teach him proper white magic, officially becoming a healer for the group.
Akku is quick to befriend the Studium's students in Sharlayan, even trading healing notes with them. A dove eventually starts following him around, one with strange blue eyes. He doesn't think much of it, and lets it stay with him since it seems to want to. The biggest shock would come to him in Garlemald, when people are actually afraid of him. Akku was never the most intimidating Warrior of Light, so to have people genuinely scared of him is strange and confusing. All he can do is try his best to get through to them. He has to learn a lot of hard lessons here, even a healer can't save everyone and that's a difficult thing for someone who just gained the power to help at all to process.
When the Final Days strike, Akku's emotional abilities prove invaluable. He's incredibly good at talking people down so they don't turn, and is able to heal their wounds. For the first time, he feels like he's really contributing something to their cause.
Not long after arriving in Elpis, Akku is surprised to run into the exact dove that he took in back in the present. The dove leads him to a silver haired man named Icarus, the same man Emet-Selch has said Akku's soul resembled. He learns the dove he'd befriended was actually Icarus's familiar named Akeso, and the two of them traveled the world with Azem. Icarus demonstrates Akeso is capable of turning into a powerful healer's staff when needed, and introduces Akku to Pegasus. While the concept is actually being tested in Elpis for introduction to the wild, Icarus kept the first one for his personal mount and having taken an interest in Akku lends the winged horse to him for his stay in Elpis. When he returns to the group, Akku is quick to take an interest in Meteion, while he only sees the feelings of others and doesn't feel them himself her ability is similar enough to his own to be of interest. This is how he learns the exact nature of his power: he sees emotions by seeing people's dynamis. Akku had always thought it just aether he was seeing, but this made a lot more sense.
In Ultima Thule, pulling together all of his courage and seeing the ambient emotion in the air, Akku ends up as one of the sacrifices to pave the way forward. Akeso the dove goes with him, and when he summoned back into being he finds himself holding the dove in staff form. Akku is able to wield powerful healing magics with it, Icarus's memories of using the staff being shared with him to aid. Akeso spends all her magical power in the battle with the Endsinger, and while she lingers after they return resting, she's gone the next day leaving behind only the vague sense that she had fulfilled her mission for now.
Akku would spend much time in Sharlayan after everything was over with the new friends he made, frequently organizing visits with the rest of Solar as they spread out during their hard won peace.

Solar
Solar is the group that took Akku in and, even in the chaos of saving the world, offered much needed stability to his life. He would do anything for them, and frequently gives them little gifts or plans various outings to spend time with them. He struggles to be open about his own problems, as he would rather make sure theirs are solved.
The Scions
Similar to Solar, Akku owes the Scions a lot. He considers them all close friends, Alphinaud was actually the one who taught him to read.
Altais
Akku's friendship with Altais started out particularly rocky. He tried his best to befriend everyone in Solar, but Altais always rejected his attempts and took to avoiding him. It wasn't until much later she would start to warm to him, but once their friendship developed it was rock solid. The two constantly trade advice, Altais is often too harsh and Akku too kind so they often balance each other out.
Zelda
Solar's leader is someone Akku looks up to greatly. She was his mentor from the moment he joined Solar, and in some ways almost the parent he never had in his drunken brother. She's his first go to for any advice, and he trusts her with his life.
- Akku's echo lets him visibly see emotions like an aura around people
- Akku loves to try random foods being sold in the streets
- Akku often gives people little trinkets or drawings (not very good ones) as gifts
